Determination of cardiac troponin I, the preferred biomarker for myocardial infarction
Severe chest pain, possibly accompanied by shortness of breath, may be a sign of myocardial infarction or angina pectoris. Rapid and reliable diagnostics are offered – in addition to an ECG – by the determination of cardiac troponin (cardiac troponin I).
Troponin I can be elevated even without the classic signs of a heart attack. Thus, troponin I is also released in other forms of heart damage and is therefore used for general estimation of the risk of heart damage.
In people with chronic heart disease, monitoring troponin I levels provides a tool for monitoring disease progression and monitoring therapy.
